Neve Campbell disclosed that Spyglass Media Group raised her compensation for Scream VII following her previous departure from the franchise due to a disagreement over salary.
Prior to Scream VI, in 2022, the actress announced she would not be reprising her role in the popular horror series, stating that the offered compensation did not reflect her contributions to the franchise. However, it was revealed in March that Campbell would indeed return as Sidney Prescott in the seventh installment.
While Campbell is enthusiastic about revisiting her character after three decades, she also recently expressed gratitude to the studio for acknowledging her concerns about pay inequity and the lack of respect she felt during negotiations for Scream VI.
She elaborated, “When they initially approached me for Scream VII, I was uncertain about what their definition of respect looked like. We might have had differing perspectives. However, they began on a positive note, which was wonderful.”
Campbell remarked that the negotiations’ tone was markedly different from previous encounters, altering her perception of returning for the Kevin Williamson-directed sequel.
“It’s gratifying to have voiced my concerns and to have been heard, making a tangible impact,” she stated. “I hope others also have the chance for similar experiences.”
Campbell’s comeback followed numerous challenges faced by the horror franchise last year, including Jenna Ortega’s departure, Melissa Barrera’s high-profile dismissal, and director Christopher Landon’s departure.
In celebration of her casting announcement, the House of Cards actress previously expressed on Instagram, “Sidney Prescott is making a comeback!!!! It’s always been an incredible joy and privilege to portray Sidney in the Scream films. My gratitude for these movies and their significance to me has never wavered. I am immensely happy and proud to announce that I’ve been invited, in the most respectful manner, to revive Sidney on screen, and I couldn’t be more thrilled!!!”
